It sure is a busy time for Formulate!

A key project goes live

For the past 9 months, Formulate has been working with Wesfarmers on their entrance into the online personal insurance market.

On 29 March 2010, we were very proud when Kmart Tyre & Auto Service (KTAS) launched their car insurance product:

Formulate designed the entire quoting and purchasing process working closely with product managers and developers from Wesfarmers General Insurance. Based on considerable research conducted with the target market, the design aims to set a new benchmark for online insurance transacting in Australia and indeed across the world. We drew on our 4 Cs model of good forms, and critically examined every detail, to deliver an interface that is quick, easy and fun to use.

We congratulate Wesfarmers on this great achievement and look forward to our continued partnership with them.

Forms training on both coasts and overseas

Update 29 April 2010: Due to unforeseen illness, we were unable to attend DQ Asia Pacific in person (thanks to the amazing Lisa Herrod from Scenario Seven for presenting Formulate's session on our behalf) and we will be unable to attend this year's Symposium.

If you've ever wanted to see Jessica present about form design best practice, there are a few great opportunities coming up.

First off we're looking forward to getting to know the West Australian community at Barcamp Perth on Saturday 10 April. For those who haven't heard of them before, barcamps are like mini conferences but more informal and with all attendees encouraged to participate in some way. Jessica is hoping for a numerous and noisy turnout at her interactive session on what makes a good form.

On Monday 19 April (note: session has moved forward a day since this was first posted), Jessica will present “Visual design for forms to maximise data quality” at DQ Asia Pacific in Sydney. Most organisations these days run on data, from customer databases to stock and inventory. Knowing how to make the most of this data, by collecting, storing and using it intelligently, is thus a key success factor. DQ Asia Pacific tackles these topics head on with local and international speakers; we're really glad to be a part of it.

Shortly afterwards it's BFMA Symposium time again. The ultimate event for forms professionals, Symposium 2010, is being held in sunny San José 3–6 May.

Jessica will be presenting on how to write good questions as well as her popular session on visual perception and the design of forms. Symposium is also our primary opportunity for business development, as many of the world's best form designers, managers and software vendors meet for an information packed couple of days.

Like to be part of the Formulate team?

At the moment we have a large number of projects on, and an equally large number in the pipeline. This has got us thinking about possibly expanding our team.

If you've got an interest in designing great forms, let's chat. We're still considering our options but would love to talk to talented and capable folk with a relevant background, regardless of whether you're looking for casual, part-time or full-time work. Who knows what fruitful partnerships might arise.
